Hartford, CT --- Tanner Thatcher (Blairstown, NJ) won all three of his matches as the WPI wrestling competed at the Trinity Quad on Saturday afternoon.  The Engineers fell to No. 11 Johnson & Wales 42-12 in their opener before dropping a 37-15 decision to the host Bantams and succumbing to Roger Williams 39-11 in the finale. 

Thatcher, ranked eighth in the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) at 125 pounds, started his outstanding day by posting a second period fall at 4:16 in his bout versus Johnson & Wales.   The rookie followed with a first period pin against Trinity and concluded with a 8-3 victory over his opponent from Roger Williams. 

Tom Gradwell (Manchester, PA) and Chris Cook (Mount Kisco, NY) accounted for the Crimson and Gray's two other triumphs over the hosts.  Gradwell grinded out a 7-6 win at 133 pounds and Cook completed an Engineer sweep of the lower weighs against the Bantams with a fall just 47 seconds into his bout at 141.  Cook capped his day of multiple wins with a 16-0 tech fall in the nightcap versus the Hawks.

Other wins on the day for WPI included fourth-ranked Tommy Dell'Aera (Eastchester, NY) at 157 pounds against Johnson & Wales and a 6-4 thrilling victory in SV1 by Ethan Edmondson (Milford, CT) at 174 in the match versus Roger Williams. 

WPI is back in action a week from Sunday at the NEWA Duals hosted ay Johnson & Wales.  Wrestling is slated to start at 9:30am.
