Field Hockey Shuts Down Gordon for Fourth Straight Victory

Box Score

WORCESTER -- WPI recorded a goal in each quarter as the Crimson and Gray blanked Gordon 4-0 in a non-conference field hockey contest played on a chilly Thursday evening on H.Carr Field at Alumni Stadium.

The triumph was the fourth consecutive win for the Engineers, who are now a season-best three games over .500 at 9-6.  Gordon slips to 2-11 on the year.

The hosts were credited with all five of the shots and all three of the penalty corners of the opening quarter and finally cashed in with 1:06 remaining when following a corner, Arie Lang (West Hartford, CT) tipped in a shot from Natalie Mohn (Huntington, VT) into the back of the net for the rookie's fifth goal of the season.

Lauren Dishong (Milford, NH) doubled the host's advantage 5:03 into the second stanza when she took a pass from the right side from Lang and rocketed a shot top shelf for the graduate student's fifth tally of 2022 and 16th overall.  Abby Powers (Halifax, MA) nearly put the Engineers up 3-0 at the half but her bid hit the post with 3:58 to go before intermission.

Abigail Rauch (Jackson, MA) got into the scoring act midway through the third quarter after she redirected a shot by Lauren Meinhold (Boxboro, MA) following a corner at 38:18.  It was Rauch's third marker of the year and ninth of her career.  Eve Martineau (Greene, ME) closed out the win with her first career tally with 2:32 to go in the fourth after she shot it in from the top of circle.

Nini Acquista (Longmeadow, MA), Ella Moreau (Huntington, MA) and Maeve McInnis (Peterborough, NH) shared the shutout for the Boynton Hillers with Acquista playing the first quarter and Moreau in between the pipes for the middle two stanzas and McInnis finishing the job in the fourth.  Moreau recorded the lone WPI save.

Allyson Stauffer (Lancaster, PA) was credited with eight saves for the Fighting Scots and Gina Ouellette (Foxboro, MA) generated a shot.

Both teams return to conference play with home games on Saturday.  WPI will celebrate Senior Day when they tangle with Wheaton at 3pm while the Fighting Scots square off with Western New England at noon.
