Attleboro, MA --- Led by a pair of All-Conference performers in senior David Reynolds (Andover, NH) and junior Avi Bissoondial (Millbury, MA), the WPI men's cross country team nabbed a runner-up finish at the 2022 NEWMAC Championships hosted by Wheaton College at Highland Park. 

Reynolds recorded his third All-Conference honor, placing 10th overall in the 8k event, notching a time of 25:23.6. Bissoondial earned All-Conference accolades for the first time in his career, finishing 14th overall in 25:47.7. Just behind them, fifth year Brian Brooks (Brewster, MA) was just one spot off an All-NEWMAC nod, taking 15th place overall in 15:49.5. 

As a team, #2 WPI finished with 61 points to record its eighth-straight second-place finish. MIT again captured the title, with an impressive team score of 15, led by individual champion, Sam Acquaviva (24:24.6). Babson took third with an 89, while Springfield (103) and Coast Guard (125) wrapped up the top five teams. 

All of WPI's scoring runners finished in the top 30 of the 98-runner field. Junior Jarrett Gulden (Walpole, ME) and graduate students Alex Simoneau (Attleboro, MA) and Andrew Yatsuhashi (Reading, MA) each recorded top-25 finishes. Gulden was 22nd in 26:32.9, Simoneau was 23rd in 26:46.3, and Yatsuhashi was 25th in 26:57.5. 

Next for WPI were sophomore Ryan Fischer (Merrimack, NH), junior Robert Doyle (Bethel, CT), and junior Connor Gaudette (Holden, MA). Fischer was 26th in a time of 27:00.3, while Doyle was 27th in 27:05.6, and Gaudette was 31st in 27:24.3. 

Rounding out the highlights for WPI was a pair of top-40 finishes from freshmen Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT) and Thomas Skerry (Dedham, MA) in their first NEWMAC meet. Wyche took 39th and Skerry was 40th, with both notching official times of 27:37.1. 

Up next, WPI will compete in the NCAA Division III East Region Championship on Saturday, November 12. The event is hosted in Brunswick, ME by Bowdoin College, with the men's race beginning at noon.
