Men's Swimming and Diving Drops Dual with Southern Connecticut, 156-140

New Haven, CT --- In a Friday night meet, to kick off a weekend of swimming, the WPI men's swimming team fell in a dual meet at Southern Connecticut State, 156-140.  

In the tight race, the Engineers came away with four first place finishes including the 1,000 Free, 200 Back, 100 Fly and 400 Free Relay titles.  

After a pair of 2-3 finishes to get the meet started in the 3-meter dive and 200 Medley Relay, Aaron Swann (Venice, FL) got the Engineers winning ways going touching the wall first in 10:24.97 in the 1000 Free followed by a close second place finish by Sam Witscher (Portland, OR) in 10:26.27.  

Christopher Smith (Northbridge, MA), Ashton Lyon (Loveland, CO) and Fraser Milligan (Middlebury, VT) finished 2-3-4 in the 100 Breast with Smith touching first in 1:01.43, Lyon in 101.77 and Milligan finishing in 1:03.11.  

Nikita Zuev (Wallingford, CT) and Matthew Segui (Stanton, CA) went 2-3 in the 200 Fly with Zuev coming in under-two minutes in 1:59.68 followed by another 2-3-4 finish in the 50 Free by John Puksta (Nashua, NH) touching first in 22.64, followed by Jack Duryea (Sag Harbor, NY) and Gavin McCullough (Geneva, IL).  

At the next diving break, Alex Masiero (Richmond, MA) and Val Corrente (East Setauket, NY) finished third and fourth with scores of 184.40 and 167.60 respectively.  

Puksta (49.32), McCullough (50.12) and Duryea (50.34) finished 2-3-4 in yet another race this time in the 100 Free while Smith picked up his first win of the day in the 200 Back with a time of 2:00.40 followed by Staubi in 2:01.64 and Austin Aguirre (Santa Maria, CA) in 2:02.92. 

After a couple of second place finishes, Zuev landed back on the podium with a first place finish in the 100 Fly in 54.69, followed by a 400 Free Relay victory to close out the night as Greenfield, McCullough, Aguirre and Zuev finished in 3:21.48.  

The Engineers are back at it in a tri meet with MIT at Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon beginning at Noon while Southern Connecticut returns to the pool at Yale on Tuesday, December 8 at 4pm.
