Brunswick, ME --- After a late Friday event meet in Southern Connecticut, the WPI men's swimming and diving squad headed north for a Noon meet against MIT and Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon in Maine.
The Engineers fell in both ends of the double-dual meet but nabbed a dozen top-5 finishes on the day including a victory in the 200 Fly from Kyle Staubi (Red Hook, NY) who touched the wall in 1:58.67. Joining him in the top-5 of that race was Nikita Zuev (Wallingford, CT) who finished in a tie for fourth in 2:01.63.
Fraser Milligan (Middlebury, VT) got the first top-5 finish of the day for the Engineers in the 1,000 Free with a time of 10:41.07 and following Staubi's performance, Val Corrente (East Setauket, NY) and Alex Masiero (Richmond, MA) went 3-4 in the 1-Meter Dive finals with scores of 165.05 and 150.80 respectively.
Christopher Smith (Northbridge, MA) finished in fifth in the 100 Free with a time of 48.86 while Angus Zuwallack (East Falmouth, MA) took fifth in the 200 Back in 2:10.21. Aaron Swann (Venice, FL) earned a fourth place finish in the 500 Free with a time of 5:04.51.
Masiero and Corrente were back at it in the 3-Meter dive with third and fourth place finishes respectively followed by a 3-4 finish in the 200 IM by Matthew Segui (Stanton, CA) and Eli Budde (Sykesville, MD) in 2:07.07 and 2:11.75.
The day ended with a fifth place finish in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:30.39.
The Engineers are back at it when they host the Gompei Invitational from Dec. 2-4 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
