Men's Swimming and Diving Bests Brandeis in Quad Meet

WORCESTER -- The WPI men's swimming and diving squad took home a dual meet win over Brandeis on Friday night with a 153.00-137.00 win in the team's quad meet.  

The team finished with 36 top-10 finishes including a pair of wins from Christopher Smith (Northbridge, MA) who brought home the 200 Back and 100 Fly victories.  

The rookie touched the wall first in the 200 Back with a time of 1:59.68 and wrapped up individual competition with a first-place finish in the 100 Fly with a time of 51.92. Smith also took second in the 100 Back on the night with a 54.33 finish and participated in the leadoff leg of the 400-Medley Relay to start off the night that took home fourth in 3:37.88.  

The 100 Back was full of Engineers as Aidan Greenfield (East Northport, NY), Austin Aguirre (Santa Maria, CA) , and Aaron Swann (Venice, FL) with 5-6-7 in the race with times of 56.33, 56.37 and 56.85. While Aguirre and Kyle Staubi (Red Hook, NY) finished third and fourth in the 200 Back behind Smith. Aguirre finished in third in 2:03.05 while Staubi earned fourth in 2:05.09. 

Staubi also earned a second-place finish in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:01.31 and a fifth place finish in the 100 Fly in 52.33.  

Alex Masiero (Richmond, MA) was the top finisher for the Engineers in the dive portion of the night coming home with a second-place finish in the one-meter dive in 190.95 and a fourth place finish in the 3 meter dive in 205.10. Val Corrente (East Setauket, NY) followed right behind Masiero finishing in third in the one-meter with a 179.85 total and a fifth place, 150.80 finish in the 3 meter dive.  

The relay team rounded the night off with a fourth-place finish in the 400 Free Relay as Greenfield, Matt Crane (Groton, MA), Nikita Zuev (Wallingford, CT) and John Puksta (Nashua, NH) compiled a time of 3:17.49.  

The Engineers also faced off against Babson and Coast Guard. Babson earned a 162.00-135.00 win while Coast Guard finished with a 195.50 to 101.50 victory.  

The squad is back in action next Friday night on Nov. 11 when they venture to Southern Connecticut for a 6:30pm showdown.
