WORCESTER -- Day two of the Gompei Invitational saw 19 top-10 finishes by the WPI swimming and diving squads including some more relay success by the women's team and a 2-3 finish in the 100 Back on the men's side.
The team sits in third place, with a combined score of 2,829 points, heading into the final day of the Invitational.
The women's relay squad once again started off with a bang as the 200 Free Relay team of Morgan Foltz (North Easton, MA), Leah Kolb (Canton, MI), Elinor Ross (Brandon, VT), and Andrea Wu (Redmond, WA) combined for a time of 1:36.26, shaving four-and-a-half seconds off of their entry time for a runner-up finish.
The same foursome closed out the night with a 400 Medley Relay second place finish in a time of 3:58.67, knocking 13.40 seconds off of their entry time to net the fastest time this season and fastest time for the school since last year's NEWMAC Championship.
Wu would go on to finish the 50 Fly in third place with a time of 26.10, while Kolb individually finished in seventh place in the 100 Back with a time of 59.33 and found herself on the podium once again with a second-place finish in the 50 Back with a time of 27.48. Joining her in the top 10 of the 50 Back was Audrey Dino (St. Louis, MO) with an eighth-place time of 28.64.
Also earning a second-place finish was Kyle Staubi (Red Hook, NY) in the 100 Back as he touched the wall in 52.89 while his teammate Christopher Smith (Northbridge, MA) joined him on the podium in third place in 52.93. The duo finished back-to-back for the second-straight night after going 1-2 in the 100 Fly on Friday night.
Smith also clocked a third-place finish in the 50 Fly with a time of 23.44, while they joined up with Ashton Lyon (Loveland, CO) and John Puksta (Nashua, NH) for an eighth-place 400 Medley Relay finish in 3:32.65 to close out day two.
The men's 200 Medley Relay team came in with a fifth place, 1:25.86 finish thanks to the swims of Aidan Greenfield (East Northport, NY), Staubi, Jack Brazer (Peterborough, NH) and Puksta.
The dive teams turned in four top-10 finishes with Katrina Yurista (Laramie, WY) leading the way with a sixth-place finish in the 1-Meter Dive with a score of 312.65 while Madeleine Hoffman (Sudbury, MA) finished 10th with a score of 259.00.
On the men's side, Alex Masiero (Richmond, MA) and Val Corrente (East Setauket, NY) finished ninth and tenth respectively with scores of 323.30 and 319.80.
The team is back in action on Sunday when they close out the Gompei Invitational.
