Newville, PA –
Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA) earned All-America status with a fourth-place overall finish to help the women's program to a 27
th place effort at the 2023 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships hosted by Dickinson (PA) at Big Springs High School in Newville, PA.
Avi Bissoondial (Millbury, MA) and
David Reynolds (Andover, NH) represented the men's cross country program at the national race individually.
Hadley, recently named USTFCCCA DIII East Region Athlete of the Year, shaved just over 46 seconds off of her last performance at Big Spring High School in a Pre-National meet hosted by Dickinson (PA) in early October. The 2023 DIII Cross Country East Region Champion finished fourth overall to earn All-America status as the first in program history after clocking in at 21:00.1. The race called for a tight finish as
Natalie Bitetti (La Crescenta, CA) of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps finished second at 20:57.4 and SUNY Geneseo's
Penelope Greene (Sag Harbor, NY) finished third overall just finished ahead of Hadley at 20:59.3.
Amelia Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) was the second member of the Crimson and Gray to cross the finish at 23:01.1 for 182
nd place followed by senior
Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) who finished 207
th with a 23:09.9 time. Graduate students and 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championship participants,
Elise Deshusses (Chapel Hill, NC) and
Charlotte Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) hit the finish line at 23:28.1 (237
th) and 23:33.0 (250th).
Rounding out the Engineers was graduate student
Rachel Hurley (Peterborough, NH) who finished at 23:50.3 and junior
Elie Bowman (Oakdale, CT) at 24:33.4.
The Crimson and Gray finished 27
th as a team with 638 points in their first-ever team appearance at the national race. Carleton took home the national title with 151 points with a close top-four haul of finishes including NYU who finished second (154), followed by Chicago (156) and Claremont-Mud-Scripps (158). St. Benedict's
Fiona Smith (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia) claimed the individual title in record-breaking fashion topping the field by 63 seconds and logging the first-ever in DIII history to reach the finish line in sub-20 minutes (19:54.1)
On the men's side, senior captain Bissoondial logged a 25:58.2 time for 144th of 294 runners on the day in his first time taking the course at the national stage as previously contributing as an alternate in 2021 in Louisville for the men's program's first-ever team berth to the national race. Fellow captain and graduate student Reynolds closed an impressive cross country career making his fourth trip to the final race with a 26:06.9 time for 162nd in the 8k trot.
Pomona-Pitzer edged out Wisconsin-La Crosse by one point (158-159) for the national title as the Eagles' senior
Ethan Gregg (La Crosse, WI) bested the field by just over 18 seconds for the individual title.
