Greensboro, NC --- WPI's Kyle Staubi (Red Hook, NY) concluded his run Saturday morning during the final day of NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center hosted by Old Dominion Athletic Conference in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The senior finished 30th overall in the preliminaries of the 200-yard backstroke, turning in a time of 1:53.39. The mark was 4.65 seconds quicker than Staubi's seed time of 1:58.04. Whitman's Tanner Filion was the fastest swimmer in the morning heats, clocking a top time of 1:42.84.
Staubi's strong meet began Thursday, when he broke the school record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.23 in the morning and then official became an All-America in the evening with a 15th place showing in the event. The senior also swam well Friday in the 200-yard butterfly, posting a 22nd place time of 1:50.00.
Staubi's performance provided the Engineers a pair of team points and the Crimson and Gray enter Saturday's final session tied for 40th place with Wisconsin Eau Claire. WPI will look to the 2023-2024 season starting with the Worcester City Championships.
