Evans Wins Twice as Women’s Track & Field Competes at the Triangle Classic

Springfield, MA --- The WPI women's track and field team closed out the indoor regular season with a strong meet at the Triangle Classic hosted by Springfield on Saturday. The Engineers compiled four event titles, three postseason standards, and 26 podium spots at the event.
 
Senior Vivienne Evans (Newtown Square, PA) took home a pair of titles at the event. In the 60m dash, she recorded a winning time of 7.89, while in the 200m dash, she went 26.13 to earn the victory. Senior Jazmyn Ewing (Worcester, MA) also earned podium spots in both events, taking third in the 200m (26.52) and fifth in the 60m (8.10).
 
Five of the top eight spots in the 800m event, led by a win from graduate student Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA). She ran a 2:14.49, which places her in the top-10 on the NCAA Division III list this season and marks a personal best in the event. Graduate students Amelia Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) and Charlotte Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) also nabbed personal best times in second (2:19.73) and third place (2:21.78) finishes.
 
Freshman Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) continued the Engineers' domination of the 800m in sixth place, with her 2:25.79 serving as both a personal best and a qualifying standard for postseason. Senior Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) rounded out the event with a seventh-place finish, going 2:28.70.
 
Senior Leithsa Dimanche (Billerica, MA) also claimed a victory at Springfield, taking the 400m title. She outpaced the field with a time of 1:02.93.
 
Graduate student Rachel Hurley (Peterborough, NH) produced a season-best time in the mile, ending up as the runner-up in the event with a time of 5:14.94. Sophomore Beth Irwin (Guilderland, NY) also picked up a season-best time in a podium finish in the 3k event, going 11:33.09 to take fifth overall.
 
Senior Amanda Borden (Sherborn, MA) led a trio of Engineers in the top five of the high jump standings, taking third place with a postseason-qualifying attempt of 1.56m. Junior Cassie Zimmerman (East Hampton, CT) and sophomore Lydia Beers (Norfolk, CT) were fourth and fifth, each going 1.46m.
 
Another three WPI student-athletes were podium finishers in the 600m run. Senior Isabel Hallal (Foxboro, MA) paced the group with a fourth-place finish in 1:45.42, while senior Abby Hodges (North Easton, MA) was sixth in 1:48.37 and junior Lauren Mitcheson (West Bridgewater, MA) was seventh in 1:52.47.
 
Senior Morgan Collins (Hudson, MA) and Elizabeth Matticoli (South Brunswick, NJ) both finished with a pair of podium spots at the event. In the shot put, Collins recorded a postseason qualifying throw of 11.25m, placing her sixth overall, while Matticoli was seventh in 11.18m. In the weight throw, Collins placed second (15.29m), while Matticoli recorded a season-best throw of 14.52m in a fourth-place finish.
 
Sophomore Corryn Fisher (Swansea, MA) and Beers and both advanced through to the 60m hurdle finals, where Fisher took third in 9.53 and Beers, sixth, in 10.15.
 
Freshman Brianna Landry (Cumberland, RI) and junior Olivia Spielberger (Hingham, MA) both had strong efforts in the long jump. Landry placed sixth overall (4.89m), while Spielberger (4.67m) was eighth.
 
Qualified Engineers will now look ahead to next weekend's New England Division III Championships. The meet will take place on Sunday, February 25 at the Track at New Balance in Boston.
