Anderson Wins Twice, Larsen, Fleck Also Victorious as WPI Places Second at Trinity Invitational

Hartford, CT --- Ethan Anderson (North Haven, CT), Will Larsen (Chelmsford, MA) and Gavin Fleck (Bend, OR) each captured event titles Saturday as WPI finished second at the Trinity Invitational.

WPI amassed 126 points. RPI won the meet with 186 points, while Springfield was third with 102 and Wesleyan placed fourth with 86.

Anderson captured a pair of throwing events, winning the shot put with a toss of 14.81 meters (48-7.25) and the discus at 48.19 meters (158-1). Larsen won the 400 hurdles in 54.66 while Fleck cleared 4.80 meters (15-9) to take the pole vault title.

Everett Mosher (Chester, VT) led the distance group with a second-place finish in the 1,500 meters in 3:55.06 while Thomas Skerry (Dedham, MA) followed in fourth at 3:56.82. Drew O'Reilly (Syracuse, NY) added an 11th-place showing in 3:59.76.

In the 800 meters, Alden Betterley (Bow, NH) placed fifth in 1:54.81 while Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT) registered a runner-up finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:45.04.

WPI dominated the 400 hurdles behind Larsen. Jurjen Bouvier (Longmeadow, MA) was third in 55.23 with a personal best, Theo Burrell (East Haddam, CT) took fourth in 55.96 with a season best and Colin
Squier
(Douglas, MA) finished eighth in 58.20. Anthony Minichiello (Burlington, MA) added a 10th-place finish in the 400 meters in 50.31.

Aloiye Okhipo (Milford, MA) added a runner-up finish in the 110 hurdles with a finals time of 14.87.

In the field events, Brett Gerlach (Lock Haven, PA) tied for third in the high jump at 1.87 meters (6-1.5). John Cummings (Dallas, PA) was second in the shot put at 14.38 meters (47-2.25), fifth in the discus at 43.83 meters (143-9) and 11th in the hammer at 42.45 meters (139-3). Logan Lavimodiere (Cranston, RI) placed 12th in the hammer with a toss of 42.28 meters (138-8).

Matt Richards (Peabody, MA) added a third-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 53.90 meters (176-10), while Joshua Thomas (Marlboro, MA) was ninth at 46.79 meters (153-6).

Competing Friday night in the distance elite portion of the Sean Collier Invitational, Jackson Sobelman (Redding, CT) posted a time of 15:31.50 in the 5,000 meters.
 
WPI now turns its attention to the NEWMAC Championships next weekend at Coast Guard in New London. Friday's events are scheduled to begin at 2pm, while Saturday is set for an 11am start.
