Thompson Terrific as Women's Track and Field Finishes Fourth at Trinity Invitational

Hartford, CT --- Rayna Thompson (Brentwood, NH) captured the 400 meters, and Vivienne Evans (Newtown Square, PA) and Shayna Hailey (Stoughton, MA) each turned in top-three finishes Saturday as WPI competed at the Trinity Invitational.
 
The Engineers finished seventh in the team standings with 51 points. Wesleyan won the meet with 116 points, followed by RPI with 105 and host Trinity with 88.

Thompson won the 400 meters in a season-best 57.27 while Evans placed third in the 100 meters in 12.47 and Hailey finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 11.02 meters (36-2).
 
Thompson also helped the 4x100 relay team of Julia Fronc (Plaistow, NH), Thompson, Ella Stone (Branford, CT) and Evans place third in 50.70. Fronc added a seventh-place finish in the 400 meters in 1:00.99 while Beth Irwin (Guilderland, NY) was seventh in the 5,000 meters in a season-best 19:29.20.
 
In the hurdles, Samantha Alley (Randolph, NJ) placed fifth in the 400 hurdles in 1:07.66 and Bailey Allmon (Woodbine, MD) was sixth in 1:07.75. Madisen McLeod (Ledyard, CT) posted a season-best 16.20 in the 100 hurdles preliminaries while Addison Collins (Tyngsboro, MA) followed close behind in 16.30.
 
Stone finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.10 meters (16-8.75) while Collins placed 10th in the high jump by clearing 1.43 meters (4-8.25). Caetlyn Embree (Sherborn, CT) and Hailey tied for 11th in the event after both cleared 1.38 meters (4-6.25). Charly Painter (Littleton, MA) added a fifth-place showing in the pole vault at 2.70 meters (8-10.25).
 
In the throws, Addison Pong (Bolton, MA) was sixth in the shot put with a toss of 11.08 meters (36-4.25), while Reese Dyson (Schwenksville, PA) took 10th in the discus at 29.87 meters (98-0).
The Engineers will head to the NEWMAC Championships next weekend at Coast Guard in New London as the postseason gets underway. Friday competition is slated for 2pm, with Saturday's events beginning at 11am.
