Medfield, MA --- The WPI men's track and field team closed out competition at the Tufts Spring Stampede on Saturday with a pair of sprint victories from senior
Alex Cole (Weymouth, MA) and a relay win from the 4x100 quartet.
Cole led the Engineers by sweeping the short sprints, winning the 100-meter dash in 10.76 and the 200 meters in 21.75. Junior
Sam Manteria (Wilbraham, MA) added a runner-up finish in the 100 (10.83) and placed 14th in the 200 (22.44).
The Engineers also claimed victory in the 4x100-meter relay, as the squad of Manteria, junior
Ajay Bellamy (Hamden, CT), sophomore
Justin Serrecchia (Lakeville, MA), and Cole crossed first in 41.77.
In the 400 meters, senior
Anthony Minichiello (Burlington, MA) paced WPI with a fourth-place finish (50.91), followed closely by sophomore
Will Kelley (Medford, MA) in sixth (51.07). Junior
Gabriel D'Amour (Somers, CT) (11th, 51.71) and graduate student
Josh Castro (Pittsburgh, PA) (12th, 51.77) also competed.
The 400-meter hurdles group turned in a strong showing, led by sophomore
Will Larsen (Chelmsford, MA) with a third-place finish (54.34). Freshman
Brian Stampoulos (Hillsboro, NJ) placed sixth (55.52), while sophomore
Theo Burrell (East Haddam, CT) (7th, 56.17) and sophomore
Jurjen Bouvier (Longmeadow, MA) (8th, 56.19) rounded out a group of four Engineers inside the top eight.
Senior
Thomas Skerry (Dedham, MA) represented WPI in the 800 meters, placing fifth in 1:54.38.
In the 4x400-meter relay, the WPI "A" team of Castro, D'Amour, Minichiello, and junior
Koray Boybeyi (Reston, VA) placed fifth overall in 3:27.85.
The throws group produced multiple top-10 finishes in the shot put, led by junior
Ethan Anderson (North Haven, CT) in third (14.61m). Sophomore
John Cummings (Dallas, PA) placed sixth (13.91m), while junior
Michael Zuo (Worcester, MA) finished eighth (13.55m) and freshman
Abdulrahman Muayad (Yarmouth, ME) took 10th (12.93m).
In the discus, Cummings led WPI with a fourth-place finish (41.78m), followed by freshman
Logan Lavimodiere (Cranston, RI) in ninth (39.51m), Anderson in 12th (38.07m), and Muayad in 14th (35.42m).
Senior
Brett Gerlach (Lock Haven, PA) added a sixth-place finish in the high jump (1.92m), while sophomore
Ethan Ramirez (Burlington, CT) competed in the long jump, placing 11th (6.13m).
WPI will return to action on Saturday at the Trinity Invitational in Hartford, CT, the team's final meet before postseason competition.
