Hadley Lowers School Mark at BU; #17 Women's Track & Field Competes at Tufts

Medford, MA --- Graduate student Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA) smashed a school record at BU's Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invite, while the rest of the 17th-ranked WPI women's track and field team was finishing strong at the Tufts Cupid Challenge and Multi Meet on Saturday.
 
The BU meet saw Hadley go 9:35.07, currently the top time in all of NCAA Division III, and the 23rd-best time in division history. She shaved over 15 seconds from her previous program record time of 9:50.89, finishing 15th overall at the largely Division-I meet.
 
Meanwhile, the Engineers, which are ranked second in the region, put together nine podium finishes at the Tufts two-day meet.
 
Leading the way at Tufts, graduate student Rachel Hurley (Peterborough, NH) won the 5k, recording a postseason qualifying time of 17:52.81. Junior Elie Bowman (Oakdale, CT) also had a strong 5k, hitting a personal best time of 18:49.84 to finish fourth overall.
 
Seniors Jazmyn Ewing (Worcester, MA) and Vivienne Evans (Newtown Square, PA) recorded two podium finishes each at the event. In the 200m dash, Ewing placed fourth overall in a postseason qualifying time of 26.56, while Evans was right behind with a 26.61, good for fifth. In the 60m dash, they both qualified for the finals in season-best times (Evans 7.86; Ewing 8.04). Evans finished third overall going 7.88, while Ewing took fifth, improving her PR to 8.03 seconds.
 
The women's 4x800m relay team of graduate student Amelia Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY), graduate student Charlotte Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY), senior Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY), and graduate student Elise Deshusses (Chapel Hill, NC) nearly broke a school record. The foursome took second overall in 9:25 flat, just .26 off the WPI mark.
 
Freshman Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) notched a seventh-place finish in the 600m event, qualifying to postseason competition with a time of 1:43.21.
Sophomore Corryn Fisher (Swansea, MA) advanced to the finals of the 60m hurdles, where she took seventh overall with a time of 9.52 seconds.
 
In the weight throw, senior Morgan Collins (Hudson, MA) took second overall with a toss of 15.68m, while classmate Elizabeth Matticoli (South Brunswick, NJ) was seventh with a 13.24m effort.
 
The Engineers are back in action on Friday, February 9 at BU's Valentine Invitational.
