Hadley Sets Two School Records in Two-Meet Weekend for Women’s Track and Field

Grace Hadley
Lowell, MA --- Graduate student Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA) set two school records in a busy weekend for the WPI women's track and field team. Hadley raced at MIT's Sean Collier Distance Invitational on Friday, while the team was in action at the two-day UMass Lowell George Davis Invitational.

On Friday, Hadley became just the fourth woman in NCAA Division III history to break 16 minutes in the 5k. Her time of 15:56.26 is fourth all-time in NCAA Division III history and is the best time this season. She also lowered her previous school mark in the event.

A day after breaking that record, she set a new school record in the 800m. Hadley went 2:08.55, which is third this season in the nation. She surpassed the previous school mark of 2:08.67, set by former teammate Sydney Packard '20 in 2018. Also competing well in the 800m event, graduate student Elise Deshusses (Chapel Hill, NC) nabbed a season-best time of 2:19.44 to finish fifth overall.

Senior Elizabeth Matticoli (South Brunswick, NJ) had a great meet at UMass Lowell, punching a ticket to the postseason in the hammer throw. She tossed a personal best mark of 43.93m to place seventh overall. Matticoli also nabbed a 12th-place finish in the shot put, with a throw of 10.58m.

Graduate student Charlotte Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) also nabbed a postseason qualifying spot. She met the New England Division III Championship standard in the 1500m, racing to a time of 4:47.62.

Senior Isabel Hallal (Foxboro, MA) broke the 60-second barrier in the 400m event. She finished with a season-best time of 59.98 to take eighth overall and earn a spot at the New England Division III Championships.

Senior Vivienne Evans (Newtown Square, PA) had a pair of top-ten finishes at the event. In the 100m dash, she was fourth overall in 12.60 and in the 200m, she was sixth in 26.55.

Rounding out the individual performances, sophomore Corryn Fisher (Swansea, MA) notched a season-best time in the 100m hurdles going 15.76, while senior Morgan Collins (Hudson, MA) was seventh overall in the discus (37.06m).

WPI also nabbed two fourth-place relay finishes. In the 4x100m, Fisher, senior Jazmyn Ewing (Worcester, MA), Evans, and senior Leithsa Dimanche (Billerica, MA) went 50.28 seconds. In the 4x400m, Deshusses, senior Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY), Hadley, and freshman Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) teamed up to finish in 4:06.42.

Up next for the Engineers is the 2024 NEWMAC Championships. The two-day meet will run next Friday and Saturday at Springfield.
