Springfield, MA --- The WPI women's track and field squad took home the team title at the 2024 Springfield College Outdoor Classic on Saturday. The Engineers racked up 12 individual event titles while winning both relay events.
As a team, WPI compiled 241.5 total points to top the hosts' score of 219. Keene State was a distant third in the 10-team event. The Engineers
In the throws, senior
Morgan Collins (Hudson, MA) tallied two wins, while senior
Elizabeth Matticoli (South Brunswick, NJ) and sophomore
Katy Gorden (Wayne, NJ) each grabbed one. Collins won the shot put in 11.43m, with Matticoli fourth (10.22m), while in the discus, it was Collins in first (36.47m) and Matticoli fourth (32.58m). Matticoli got the win in the hammer throw in 40.69m while taking second in the javelin (37.44m), where Gordon grabbed the victory in 38.38m.
Senior
Amanda Borden (Sherborn, MA) and freshman
Brianna Landry (Cumberland, RI) notched wins in the jumps. Borden took the high jump title in 1.58m, while junior
Cassie Zimmerman (East Hampton, CT) was fourth in 1.47m. Landry won the long jump title in 4.91m with sophomore
Lydia Beers (Norfolk, CT) in second in 4.70m. In the triple jump, it was Zimmerman in third (10.35m) while sophomore
Corryn Fisher (Swansea, MA) was fourth (10.26m).
In the sprints, senior
Vivienne Evans (Newtown Square, PA) grabbed a victory in the 100m dash, going 12.43 in the finals, while senior
Jazmyn Ewing (Worcester, MA) was fifth in 12.95, while in the 200m, it was Evans second (25.94) and Ewing fourth (26.22). Racing in the 400m, senior
Isabel Hallal (Foxboro, MA) took second (1:03.60) with freshman
Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) in fourth (1:05.03).
Sophomore
Bethany Brown (Allentown, PA) grabbed a victory in the 400m hurdles event, going 1:12.54 to lead a trio of Engineers on the podium. Sophomore
Bailey Allmon (Woodbine, MD) took second (1:13.04), while graduate student
Charlotte Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) was fifth (1:14.41). In the 100m hurdles, sophomore
Corryn Fisher (Swansea, MA) took third overall in 16.55.
In the distance events, WPI put three in the top five in the 5,000m run, while also grabbing a runner-up finish in the 1500m. Graduate student
Elise Deshusses (Chapel Hill, NC) topped the 5,00m podium in a time of 18:24.92, while senior
Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) was second (18:54.82) and
Beth Irwin (Guilderland, NY) was fifth (20:22.47). In the 1,500,
Charlotte Kokernak was the runner-up, going 5:03.63.
Closing out the meet, the Engineers swept the relay events. In the 4x100m, WPI ran a 50.72 to win it, with Fisher, Evans, Ewing, and senior
Leithsa Dimanche (Billerica, MA) taking the title. In the 4x400m, Deshusses, Hallal, Dimanche, and Steckley won it in 4:19.72.
Up next, the Engineers will compete at the UMass Multi-Meet on April 10 and 11, and then at the UMass Commonwealth Invitational on April 13.
Results
