Boston, MA --- Six WPI women's track and field athletes kicked off a busy weekend for the Engineers Friday in the John Thomas Terrier Classic hosted at the iconic BU oval. The meet features top competition from Division I, II and III schools across the country with the men, including a handful from WPI taking center stage, while large members of both the men's and women's program will head to Norton for the Wheaton Invitational.
Rookie
Rayna Thompson (Brentwood, NH) continued a strong debut month for the Crimson and Gray. The freshman matched her collegiate best in the 60 meters by clocking a time of 7.97 before returning later in the meet and posting the seventh fastest time in program history and a personal best time of 25.77 in the 200 meters.
WPI had a presence in the mile as an Engineer duo each delivered a season-best time .
Elie Bowman (Oakdale, CT) clocked a 5:23.57 while
Catherine Daly (Groton, MA) was close behind in a new PR of 5:27.41.
Other strong performers included
Lauren Mitcheson (West Bridgewater, MA) racing to a season-best time of 1:04.82 in the 400 meters and
Sophia Reynolds (Andover, NH) establishing a new indoor personal record in the 5,000 meters.
Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) kicked off a full weekend of racing by reaching the finish line in the 800 meters in 2:26.33.
Action for the Engineers at Wheaton begins at 10am Saturday while WPI sees its BU contingent start action at 11:35am in Boston.
