Men’s Basketball Earns NABC Team Academic Excellence Award; Seven Named to Honors Court

2024-25 NABC Team Academic Excellence Award - WPI Men's Basketball
Kansas City, MO — The WPI men's basketball program has once again been recognized for its outstanding academic achievement by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), earning the 2024-25 NABC Team Academic Excellence Award. In addition, seven Crimson and Gray student-athletes were honored on the prestigious NABC Honors Court, highlighting the program's continued commitment to excellence on and off the court.

Honored on the NABC Honors Court was graduate student Nicholas Margetson (Baldwin, NY), seniors Brett Marelli (Hampton, NH), Tim Reidy (Needham, MA), Will Barton (Meriden, CT), and juniors Adam Patterson (New York, NY), J.R. Newman (Havertown, PA) and Matt Morvillo (Bedford, NH).

The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize men's basketball programs that completed the 2024-25 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher, while the NABC Honors Court highlights junior, senior, and graduate student men's basketball players who posted a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better for the year.

The NABC's academic awards span all levels of college basketball, with nearly 400 programs earning Team Academic Excellence Awards and over 2,400 players receiving Honors Court recognition in 2024-25.

"Education is one of the NABC's five core values, and we are proud to recognize the academic accomplishments of these programs and individual student-athletes across our sport," said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. "The dedication and hard work of these athletes, along with their coaches and support staff members who prioritize academic success, deserves to be widely celebrated."

WPI's academic success paralleled one of the most impressive seasons in program history. The Engineers finished the year 26-4 and advanced to their second NCAA Sectional Semifinal in four seasons. The 26-win campaign marked the 18th time in the past 21 years that WPI reached 20 or more victories, reinforcing the program's proud legacy of academic and athletic excellence.
