Boston, MA & Medford, MA --- The WPI women's track & field squad split competition sites between the BU Valentine Invitational and the Tufts Cupid Challenge & Multi Meet on Saturday.
Graduate student Vivienne Evans (Newtown Square, PA) opened up the action early on Saturday as she led WPI's sprint efforts, posting times of 8.06 in the 60 meters and 25.82 in the 200 meters, the latter marking a season best.
In the 800 meters, senior Bethany Brown (Allentown, PA) delivered an all-time personal-best 2:19.43, while junior Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) recorded an indoor personal-best 2:20.89.
Over in Medford, sophomore Julia Fronc (Plaistow, NH) paced the Engineers in the sprints, clocking 8.24 in the 60 meters and 28.05 in the 200 meters. Maddie Mims (Abington, MA) pulled double duty as well in the 60m and 200m and added times of 8.89 and 31.48 respectively.
First-year Sabrina Cady (Lowell, MA) turned in a strong performance in the 800 meters, recording 2:25.45 to earn a NED3 provisional qualifying mark.
In the 1,000 meters, sophomore Catherine Daly (Groton, MA) finished third overall in 3:10.54, securing a NED3 provisional qualifying mark, while first-year Kayleigh Carnazza (Virginia Beach, VA) placed 11th in 3:19.85.
Junior Grace Connell (Far Hills, NJ) and senior Beth Irwin (Guilderland, NY) competed in the mile, finishing in 6:04.74 and 6:22.88, respectively. Sophia Reynolds (Andover, NH) highlighted the distance events with a NED3 provisional qualifying time of 10:42.79 in the 3,000 meters.
In the hurdles, rookie Addison Collins (Tyngsboro, MA) recorded a 10.10 finish in the 60-meter hurdles.
Field event action saw first-year Ella Stone (Branford, CT) deliver a strong showing, recording a 4.97-meter long jump and a 10.70-meter triple jump, the latter earning a NED3 provisional qualifying mark. Shayna Hailey (Stoughton, MA) cleared 1.43 meters in the high jump.
In the throws, Joselyn Smith (Strong, ME) led WPI with marks of 9.33 meters in the shot put and 12.97 meters in the weight throw. Sydney Shilts (Flemington, NJ) added throws of 8.35m (shot put) and 10.85m (weight), while Reese Dyson (Schwenksville, PA) competed in the weight throw.
The Engineers turn to the Triangle Classic hosted by Springfield which will be the final regular season meet next Saturday with events slated for a 10:30am.
