Boston, MA --- The WPI men's indoor track and field team tied for fifth place at the 2026 New England Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship on Sunday at the TRACK at New Balance. The Engineers recorded one school record, crowned two New England champions and earned eight All-New England honors.
WPI totaled 38 points to tie Middlebury for fifth in the field of 29 scoring teams. Amherst won the team title with 103 points, followed by Tufts (101.5) and MIT (97.5).
The 4x800-meter relay of seniors
Thomas Skerry (Dedham, MA),
Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT) and
Everett Mosher (Chester, VT), along with sophomore
Alden Betterley (Bow, NH), won the New England title in 7:40.72. The time broke WPI's previous indoor record of 7:46.68 set in 2014 and stands as the fastest 4x800 performance in program history, indoor or outdoor.
Also nabbing a New England title, senior
Gavin Fleck (Bend, OR) won the pole vault with a clearance of 5.00 meters (16-4¾).
Individually, Mosher earned All-New England honors in the 800 meters with a sixth-place finish in 1:52.37. Betterley earned All-New England honors in the 1,000 meters with a personal-best 2:30.22.
Freshman
Aloiye Okhipo (Milford, MA) earned All-New England honors with a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.12 after running 8.16 in the prelims. Senior
Alex Cole (Weymouth, MA) grabbed an All-New England nod in the 200 meters with a time of 21.91 after advancing to the 60-meter final with a 6.91 prelim and 6.87 in the championship heat.
In the field events, senior
Brett Gerlach (Lock Haven, PA) earned All-New England honors with a sixth-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.95 meters (6-4¾). Sophomore
John Cummings (Dallas, PA) also nabbed All-New England honors with an eighth-place finish in the shot put at 14.33 meters (47-0¼).
In the middle-distance events, Wyche ran 1:53.38 and Skerry recorded a personal-best 1:53.42 in the 800 meters. Sophomore
Colin Britner (Hampton, CT) posted a personal-best 2:30.37 in the 1,000 meters. Sophomore
Drew O'Reilly (Syracuse, NY) ran 4:17.80 in the mile, while sophomore
Jackson Sobelman (Redding, CT) clocked 4:17.85.
Freshman
Brian Stampoulos (Hillsboro, NJ) ran 49.78 in the 400 meters and recorded a mark of 12.89 meters (42-3½) in the triple jump. Sophomore
Will Larsen (Chelmsford, MA) ran 50.79 in the 400 meters. Sophomore
Ethan Schnyer (Nashua, NH) recorded a time of 22.35 in the 200 meters.
Junior
Ethan Anderson (North Haven, CT) recorded marks of 16.12 meters (52-10¾) in the weight throw and 13.94 meters (45-9) in the shot put. Cummings also threw 13.11 meters (43-0¼) in the weight throw.
