Brown, Richards Claim Victories for Track and Field at Farley Inter-Regional Extravaganza

Williamstown, MA --- The WPI men's and women's track and field teams battled challenging weather conditions Friday at the Farley Inter-Regional Extravaganza hosted by Williams, highlighted by event victories from senior Bethany Brown (Allentown, PA) and junior Matt Richards (Peabody, MA).
 
Brown delivered one of the top performances of the day for the Engineers, winning the women's 400-meter hurdles in a personal-best time of 1:03.11. On the men's side, Richards captured the javelin title with a winning throw of 53.11 meters on his final attempt of the competition.

Junior Ethan Anderson (North Haven, CT) added a pair of top-eight finishes in the throwing events, placing third in the discus with a mark of 48.56 meters before later overcoming difficult conditions to take eighth in the shot put at 13.88 meters. Freshman Addison Pong (Bolton, MA) also turned in a strong showing in the women's shot put, placing fourth overall with a toss of 11.90 meters.
 
WPI also posted a season-best performance in the men's 4x100-meter relay as the quartet of Sam Manteria (Wilbraham, MA), Justin Serrecchia (Lakeville, MA), Brett Gerlach (Lock Haven, PA) and Alex Cole (Weymouth, MA) combined to finish second in 41.25.
 
The Engineers received a pair of standout efforts in the distance events as senior Thomas Skerry (Seekonk, MA) registered a new outdoor personal-best in the 800 meters, finishing in 1:53.77, while senior Everett Mosher (Chester, VT) lowered his personal-best in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:51.11.
 
Freshman Aloiye Okhipo (South Windsor, CT) added a fourth-place finish in the men's 110-meter hurdles final with a time of 15.50.
 
Select student-athletes will continue compete on Thursday at the MIT Final Qualifier in Cambridge.
