WORCESTER -- WPI Head Baseball Coach Brendan Casey will depart WPI after four seasons to become the head baseball coach at Wheaton College.
 
Casey leaves Boynton Hill having made a significant impact on the Engineers baseball program. During his tenure, Casey helped guide WPI back to the NEWMAC Championship Tournament for the first time since 2019 and worked to establish a program that emphasized success on the field, in the classroom and in the community.
 
"I would like to thank Brendan for the leadership he provided to our student-athletes and baseball program these past five years," said WPI Director of Physical Education, Recreation & Athletics Dana L. Harmon. "His tireless efforts in recruiting and coaching to help our student-athletes be successful in competition, the classroom and community is appreciated. Brendan's commitment to the D3 student-athlete model was clearly evident, with our baseball program's team GPA leading the way for our athletic program while remaining competitive on the field. We wish him well in his new opportunity."
 
Casey's impact was evident early in his WPI tenure. In 2024, he led the Engineers to a seven-win improvement from the previous season, finishing 20-17-1 and nearly doubling the team's NEWMAC win total from a year earlier. The season marked WPI's first appearance in the NEWMAC Championship Tournament since 2019. Four Engineers earned All-Conference recognition, including an All-American.
 
"I am thankful for my time at WPI and the opportunity they gave me to grow as a coach," remarked Casey. "It was a pleasure to work with everyone in the department and learn from each of them. Most importantly, I am thankful for the relationships I was fortunate to have with the players that came through the program during my four years. It was an excellent group of young men that had a profound impact on my family and me."

The Crimson and Gray were also recognized for their success in the classroom, earning the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award in each of Casey's four seasons at the helm. In 2025-26, the program boasted the highest team GPA among all 20 varsity teams for the first time in program history.

A national search will begin immediately for the next head coach at WPI.
