WPI Athletics Celebration-WPI Wrestling-2025-2026

2025–2026 WPI Athletics Celebration: Wrestling

WPI Athletics Celebration - WPI Wrestling - 2025-2026
The WPI Department of Athletics is proud to continue its 2025–2026 Athletics Celebration, a daily series highlighting the top moments from each varsity program's season. The celebration will also recognize each team's Ray Cherenzia '73 Award honoree and selected programs' major award winners, as chosen by WPI Athletics' head coaches.

Top Moment: Pavis and Bernard Reach the NCAA Region 1 Podium
WPI concluded the 2025–2026 season with two podium finishes at the NCAA Division III Region 1 Wrestling Tournament hosted by Coast Guard. Charlie Pavis placed fourth at 125 pounds and Joseph Bernard finished sixth at 197 pounds as the Engineers climbed from 15th entering the final day to 13th in the team standings with 37 points.
Pavis kept his national-qualification hopes alive with a dramatic third-period rally against Wesleyan's Chris Hong, escaping before recording a takedown and four near-fall points on the way to a pin at 6:12. Bernard added a fall of his own in 6:16 against Wesleyan's Warren Little. Their performances provided a fitting close to the campaign and highlighted the resilience of WPI's senior leaders on the regional stage.

Senior Day Reflection: WPI Honors Four Seniors
WPI recognized Charlie Pavis, Ryan Addeche, Theo Sawyers and Trevor Bowen prior to the Engineers' final home dual of the season against Springfield on February 14. Under the spotlight inside Harrington Auditorium, the ceremony celebrated a senior class whose commitment helped shape the wrestling program in competition, in the classroom and through its daily standard of preparation.
Pavis represented the Engineers at 125 pounds, Addeche at 165, Sawyers at 174 and Bowen at heavyweight. Their final home appearance offered teammates, coaches and supporters an opportunity to recognize the leadership, perseverance and care each senior brought to WPI Wrestling throughout their careers.

Ray Cherenzia '73 Award Recipient: Charlie Pavis
Charlie Pavis was selected as the wrestling program's recipient of the Ray Cherenzia '73 Award. The honor is presented to a member of each varsity team who exemplifies the spirit of an "unsung hero"—someone who works hard every day, puts the team first over personal goals and performs the often-unrecognized responsibilities that are vital to the team's success.
Pavis' selection recognizes the commitment, selflessness and character displayed as a team captain and senior leader. The management engineering major paired his impact on the mat with a 3.85 cumulative GPA, representing the program and WPI with distinction in competition, in the classroom and in the community.
